News:

I will update here as soon as I can remember what I’ve been doing.

Friday, October 30: I’m hauling a guitar up to Dickinson College to play with Billy Coulter’s swing band, The Natty Beaux. Should be a great dancin’ time.

Saturday, October 24: Recorded the blugrass pickin’ by famed players Jimmy Gaudreau, Leon Morris, Dick Smith, and Jerry McCoury. Really a wonderful group of master musicians.

Sunday, October 18: Finished mixing David Kitchen’s live album on the 12th, and today I approved the
master for pressing. It’s a collection of great performances from one night that feature Dave’s songwriting (kind of an amalgamation of Beatles, Elvis Costello, and Buddy Holly).

Sunday, September 20: Played at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville with Janet Emma Garbe.

Tuesday, September 15: Solo jazz at Fireworks in Leesburg, VA resumes for the winter.

Friday, September 4: I’ve been hired to perform an acoustic analysis of the Franklin Park Performing Arts Center in Purcellville, VA. I enjoy the technical focus as a challenge to creating a better auditory environment.

Wednesday, August 26: Although it’s been a sad month because of the demise of Les Paul, Blue Jet
(one of our horses), Johnny Joe (one of my stock cattle), and Ted Kennedy, I have had a great time playing acoustic (rock, country, etc) and jazz gigs. Listen to the soundclip from a gig where I looped the instruments live.

Monday, August 10: Extraordinary sax man Brian Settles came out to my studio to check out the acoustic space and record some short solo sketches. Brian developed under the influence of Washington, DC’s Duke Ellington school and is branching out to regular gigs in New York city. As well as evoking an incredible tone, he is an accomplished composer and bandleader. On the Soundclips page, you can hear his sax recorded in my “live” room. The sax and room’s natural reverb is captured by the combination of a ribbon mic and an old German condenser.

Sunday, August 2: My audio mixes have been synced to video for release on Comcast’s music channel. Featured in the collection are performances from Sam Grow, George Wirth, One Horse Town, and Dave Kitchen. Look for local times.

Monday, July 20: Began working on the mixes for Dave Kitchen’s live album. His collection of songs features some great moments from Goose Creek Live.

Wednesday, June 17: While travelling to Amsterdam to hear pianist Fazil Say and band AC/DC, my mix master of Sam Grow’s performance is being mastered by Dave Glaser at Airshow.

Sunday, April 19: Jimmy Gaudreau celebrated 40 years of making music with a shindig featuring Art Wachter, Robin and Linda Williams, Mark Johnson, and Mark Freeman.

Saturday, April 18: One Horse Town played a well-received and attended show at Goose Creek Live.

Saturday, April 11: The Allen Toussaint Tribute show exuded all the greasy, gumbo funk one would expect from his music and performances by Eric Scott, LEA, Paul Bell and Mark Wenner, and the incredible Orioles.

Thursday, April 9: A beautiful day while the Michelle Renee Band played the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Jefferson Memorial.

Saturday, April 4: Miller’s in Charlottesville with American Dumpster.

Thursday, April 2: Played Bel Rio with Charlottesville’s American Dumpster.

Saturday, March 28: Setup recording mics and ran FOH sound for Sam Grow at Goose Creek Live (Franklin Park auditorium). I will be mixing the tracks for internet release. Check the Goose Creek website for details.

Thursday, March 12: I started recording Jimmy Gaudreau and Moondi Klein for the follow-up album to “2:10 Train”. This new album will feature some guests while maintaining the acoustic flavor that made the first disc a success (along with their incredible picking and voices).

Tuesdays, March 3: Solo jazz at Firework’s in Leesburg continues. I usually play my red L-5 while doing ’30’s and ’40’s standards with some bebop.
